The Lunar Occultation Observer (LOCO) is a new mission concept being developed to probe the nuclear astrophysics regime.By combining the development heritage of planetary orbital-geochemistry investigations
with new developments in astrophysical imaging, a high-sensitivity, scaleable, and cost effective mission is feasible. LOCO will perform an all-sky survey of the Cosmos and study a wide range of astrophysical phenomena including, but not limited to, Galactic nucleosynthesis, supernovae & novae, potential dark matter
annihilation processes, active galactic nuclei, and compact objects. I will describe the motivating science, the mission concept, as well as ongoing research and development.
