How to Apply to our Graduate Program
Follow the instructions below to apply to our Graduate Program for either the MS or PhD degree in Physics. Here are some important points:
- Almost all students are admitted to the MS degree program, regardless of whether you indend that to be your terminal degree or not. Why? Because on your way to the PhD degree, you will have satisfied all requirements for the MS degree, but you cannot be awarded this degree unless you are in the MS degree program. Assuming you want the MS degree (which you do), it's easier to start out in that program. (Of course, if you intend on just getting the MS degree, this is the correct program for you all along!) The only exception will be a student who already has an MS degree or who will be applying for a fellowship that requires PhD program status.
- While admission can occur for either the Spring or Fall semeter, we strongly recommend the Fall. GTAs will only be awarded for Fall semester starts. GRAs may be available for the Spring, but to a much smaller extent than for the Fall.
